What every homeowner should know about home insurance

Buying a home is the American Dream. Albany, NY has a lot going for it being the capital of the state of New York. It has a great location with easy access to Vermont and the Catskills. It is a smaller city that has all the amenities that you could want. DeNooyer Direct Insurance Services LLC strives to ensure that all of our customers are fully insured with the finest available insurance. As independent insurance agents, we provide lots of carrier choices, and one of them is perfect for your needs.

Home insurance is not something that most people know a lot about. It really helps to read your declaration page when you get your policy, but beyond that, there are some things that every homeowner should know about home insurance.

Basic coverage

A basic home policy has more coverage than you might expect. It protects your home at replacement cost. It covers the contents with limits. Liability coverage in the event you get sued after an injury on your property or by a member of your family is an important part of your coverage. Loss of use will help you have a place to stay if a covered peril hits you.

Not every peril is covered.

Home policies have exclusions that many homeowners may not be aware of. Floods, earthquakes, mudslides, and sewer backups are not covered. Termite and mold damage are considered a lack of maintenance by the owner and are excluded.

Actual cash value vs. replacement cost

Your contents can be covered in one of two ways, actual cash value or replacement cost. A 5-year-old washing machine doesn’t have the same value as a new one. If you want to be able to replace everything, you want replacement cost.

At DeNooyer Direct Insurance Services LLC in Albany, NY, we are ready to answer any additional questions you may have. Please stop into our office or give us a call and let us help you choose the perfect home insurance.
